Searching for EMS CT Box planter

From: Chuck Straub (woodschuckstraub@yahoo.com) | Date: 2002-10-24 22:04:01 UTC-04:00
Molly and I sniffed out a Eastern Mountain Sports letterbox in Hampton CT that was badly damaged. It looks like the box was planted in 2000 or earlier. I have completely fixed the box The damaged old book is in a separate bag. I put in a new container, new book, new bag. The original stamp was still good and is still there. I can't find this box listed anywhere. Looking for the planter to see if it is listed somewhere or abandoned......Chuck and Molly

Hi there, Chuck!

I was wondering the same thing. I stumbled on a very
old box in Hampton a couple of weeks ago. (Was it in
an old H20 container?) I counted it, but I'm not sure
what to call it. I think I labelled it in my book as
"EMS/Unknown box". Anyway, if you learn anything
about it, please let me know. Happy trails!

Hello Joe, Yep it's the same container. I saw your name in the book.
The container read "Letterbox Adventure" That rock just looked out of
place didn't it. Actually I was out planting a series of 6 in the
area and should post them soon. I have a question for you. Did you go
to Chick in a Nest letterbox in Mansfield CT in late December 2001?
If so do you remember talking to a guy and a brown dog on your way
back to your car?.....Chuck and Molly

That box is part one of two hidden by a group of 6th graders in Windham.  The clues are (or were) available at EMS in the Crystal Mall in Waterford.  The series is called WMS 6 Green Letterboxing Adventure.  You might want to check EMS and see if the clues are still there.  There are other clues there as well that are not listed on the site.  Good Luck, Melissa

Hi, Thanks Melissa, I did actually find two one was near the start of the trail called Troll Letterbox. I don't remember it saying EMS though. We did go the EMS at the Crystal Mall but they didn't have any clue sheets for either box. I wonder if they have them recorded somewhere else. Thanks for you help.....Chuck and Molly

Hey there, Chuck

December 2001? I'll have to look that one up in my
notebook...lol. Perhaps, now that I think of it. Do
you recall what was said? lol

Anyway, I stopped by a few of your sites in Ashford
and Eastford yesterday. I enjoyed them all! The
weather was great and the sites you chose were scenic.
I love that part of the state.

I'm trying to figure out if you were the person that introduced me to letterboxing. I met a guy in late December while Molly and I were out walking. We passed each other once and when passing again later on, I asked what he was doing with sheets of paper in the woods. I was told a little about letterboxing and that there was one in a wall nearby. I knew how long it was when I first saw him and I knew there were only a couple walls that came up to the trail. So I went to my first guess and found the box. The box had a letterboxing fact sheet. I took a copy and was letterboxing in a few days.Looking back, I kind of remember your stamp in the book, so I'm guessing it was you that got me started letterboxing along with Leader of the Pack's fact sheet.....Chuck and Molly
